Thailand in Focus

A story of faces, moments, and a camera you already own

When I landed in Thailand, I didn’t know this trip would end with a book.
All I knew was that I needed to travel. To explore. To feel something new.

I spent an entire month in Thailand—starting in the lush green southern islands and making my way all the way up to the serene north. It was a journey I took slowly, by public transport, tuk-tuks, boats, and sometimes just on foot. I wandered through floating markets, ancient temples, street food stalls, busy intersections, and quiet alleys. I met monks, shopkeepers, students, fellow backpackers, artists, fruit sellers, and curious children who offered nothing but wide smiles.

But this time, something was different.
I left my heavier DSLR gear behind.

Instead of carrying a bulky backpack full of lenses and batteries, I carried a single item to capture it all—my older smartphone.

Why? Because I wanted to feel light. I wanted to be present. I wanted to walk without the pressure of carrying expensive gear. And deep down, I wanted to prove something—to myself and to others.

Ever since I began teaching photography during the COVID years, one thing always came up in conversations with students:
“But I don’t have a good camera.”
“I can’t take great pictures without professional gear.”

It’s a myth that needs to die.
Photography doesn’t start with gear. It starts with how you see the world.

This book—Thailand in Focus—is my way of proving that.

Every single picture in this book was taken with my smartphone. No DSLR. No special lens. Just the eyes I’ve trained over the last 15 years, and a deep desire to connect with people.

And the result?
A collection of portraits—raw, real, and full of life.
Locals. Vendors. Monks. Strangers. Travelers. Friends.
Each face tells a story. Each moment reminds me why I fell in love with photography in the first place.

The response to these photos on social media gave me the push to turn this into something more permanent. Something you can hold in your hands. And so, after weeks of sorting, curating, and writing, Thailand in Focus became my second photo book.

I hope it inspires you.

Not just to travel, but to look more closely.
Not just to dream of fancy cameras, but to start creating with what you have.
Not just to scroll through faces online, but to pause and feel the humanity behind them.

If you get a copy and enjoy the journey, I’d be truly honored if you send me a photo with the book. That would honestly make me so happy—knowing that a piece of my story is now part of yours.
